energy efficiency by intelligent software systems
Dipl.-Medieninf. Johannes Waltsgott

Today, current ambitions for energy efficient operation of IT systems focus mainly on hardware. Our approach pursues a reduction of the energy consumption of overall IT infrastructures. To reach this goal, we investigate first which components do have a relevant impact on energy consumption. Therefore, we use a distributed hierarchical storage system to gain knowledge of energy relevant parts and processes. Concurrently, we analyze approaches to model energy adaptive components.  Furthermore, we research current technologies to simulate complex IT infrastructures considering hardware and software models. Based on these experiences, we will later develop an adaptive application architecture, which allows a dynamic, competitive and energy efficient reconfiguration of hardware and software components. The talk presents the state of our project regarding the outlined research topics.
